The September 2024 Gaming Update

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Yeah so I played stuff in September. It was an okay month as far as quantity… despite the quality overall being… questionable. Not really too much to say for an intro, so I guess let’s just get to it.

So this month the new games I played are: Visions of Mana, Gimmick 2!, the new Famicom Detective Club, Gori, Rugrats, The Plucky Squire, UFO 50, FF16 and Echoes of Wisdom… Oh and the Playstation State of Play happened so a quick moment to talk about how bad that was.

Let’s go!

Metaphor: ReFantazio

Actually had stuff to play in September, so that’s nice. Still going through FF16 and Echoes of Wisdom and UFO 50, though FF16 is a bit on the backburner. There was also a really bad state of play, which is business as usual for Sony.

So anyways I’m going through the October releases now. There’s a large number of them. This month I’m highlighting 29 multiplats, 2 Switch games, 3 PC releases, and even a phone game. There are a lot of games so I chose to not highlight a few ports and stuff that didn’t seem particularly interesting, just to keep this list manageable.

There are a few interesting releases in all that, which makes sense considering the sheer amount of games. There’s only 3 or 4 I’d say I’m sure I’m getting, but there’s many maybes, and a lot of games that might appeal to different people. Not actually a terrible month.

Let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice and such. This is not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. Of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

The August 2024 Gaming Update

Black Myth: WuKong

I actually played several games in August. Most of them were smaller releases, but it was still a busier month as far as new games played.

Of course there’s the big boy Black Myth: Wukong, but there’s a variety of other games too, with a few retro-style games and some more unique things.

So let’s go and talk about them!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

August had a bunch of stuff, for me at least. Some stuff that was even good! I’ll talk about those in the august gaming update, but it was pretty nice for me.

For September 2024 I am highlighting: 19 multiplats, 1 Switch game, 5 PC games and… hey look a PS5 game too! It’s not a bad month overall, there’s 8 of these I’m probably buying at/around launch (depending on what I’m playing), and like 5 maybes. That’s a lot. Very few of these are big massive games, but I think they’re pretty cool.

Let’s go!

The July 2024 Gaming Update

Nintendo World Championship NES Edition

July sure was a month that… had games? Yeah not really. I actually planned on having one more game in this, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess… but that had a demo so I tried the demo and… yeah that didn’t feel fun at all, unfortunately. I did try a few other demos, specifically Trepang2 and Mullet MadJack, those were really good, though I’m keeping them on the backburner for now as far as getting the full games.

So outside of Mahjong, and getting back into Balatro a bit… there was not much else, I only had 2 full new games to talk about for this post. Oof.

Well let’s go I guess

Visions of Mana

July was a bit of a bust, I did play a couple things but… big oof overall. Maybe August will be better. Clearly it won’t have one of the worst games this year, right? Actually there are a few cool things coming, so it might be fine actually. But it does have two of the worst games of the year not named Suicide Squad.

So for August 2024, we’ve got: 19 multiplats and 1 PC early access release that’s interesting… and 1 Switch game I totally forgot about lol (had to edit this post). I have 2 “for sure” games I’m getting and a few maybes too. Depending on my thoughts on it, I might even write a review for one of them! Haven’t done that in a bit.

Let’s go!

The June 2024 Gaming Update

Skald: Against the Black Priory

Another quiet month as far as games played. Still focused a bunch on Mahjong Soul, slowly getting closer to Jade Room. I did play a few games, and went back to Balatro a bit because it’s so fucking good. And I tried a fun little thing that I’ll quickly comment on.

Big focus this month will be on all the presentations that happened… I’ll just talk about 3 of them because nothing else was worth talking about. In fact one of the 3 is also not worth talking about, but dunking on Lizardman is worth.

So let’s go!

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition

Summer time! There’s maybe games I dunno! I won’t have much to talk about in the June post but I have played a few games, and have some commentary on the Xbox and Nintendo thing (and absolutely nothing to say about “Lizardman Geoff Keighley’s Stupid Show Made By A Hack” because holy shit was that a bad show).

So for July 2024 I’m highlighting: 7 multiplats, 7 Switch games, and 4 PC releases. It’s kind of a month without  highlights, there’s just a few mid-level releases. I’m buying like 2 of these games, with a few maybes.

Let’s go!

The May 2024 Gaming Update

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

May sure was a big nothing month in gaming… Other than finally people are catching up to the fact that the industry is crashing… you’re over 10 years late on that realization but better late than never. Now if only game companies also noticed this. Yeah everyone seems to suck right now, good games are rarer than ever, all sequels/remasters/remakes are noticeably worse than the original game (with the only real advantage being that they’re actually available on modern platforms).

As far as games I played in May… Mahjong Soul, Pokemon TVG Live, and Eiyuden Chronicle. That’s it. I did get Skald: Against the Black Priory, but that’s going into next month’s update. So I don’t really have much to put in an update… Maybe I should put my notes about the State of Play here? I’ll think about it. Next month’s update will have not much again, with some notes on all the “E3” presentations.

So yeah… here’s stuff.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Ayo. It’s another month. June COULD be interesting because it’s “E3” time so a bunch of companies are doing presentations to announce games and stuff… I’d say there’s a solid 2% chance something interesting will be announced, considering how this year has gone so far (if leaks are true we’re at least getting a new Doom, but I put no trust in leaks). The industry is in shambles and basically no game company cares, it’s actually insane.

And if the State of Play from today is any indication, things will continue being shit. I was planning to post about the State of Play separately… but fuck that, it really wasn’t worth it. If I do a post about “E3” presentations I will mention it there, but as it is… the most interesting game was Infinity Nikki, and that’s a previously-announced game… that’s coming to PC (as are all games that were shown in the State of Play, AstroBot might be the one exception)… The PS5 is such a stupid console, don’t buy it 😀

So for June 2024 I’m highlighting: 7 multiplats, 2 Switch games, a PC release and a PS4 game… Yes, 4. As for big highlights, I can’t say there’s any, considering the biggest thing here is fucking DLC. There’s a few things here I might grab, but it’s another slow month, surprising no one.

Let’s go!
