Well January, February and March were quite the decent first couple months for 2022. Things are certainly calming down now, evidenced by the fact that fucking nothing is coming out in April. Game industry giving gamers time to breathe, finally. Heck, unless announcements start happening soon there’s also nothing coming out in May. Hopefully game companies actually start announcing release dates for the rest of the year because things are getting a bit empty other than some of the stuff Nintendo announced at their recent Direct.
As for me, well I just reviewed 3 pretty solid games, and I have started Ghostwire Tokyo and Kirby, and Tiny Tina’s Probably Crappy Game is downloaded, so those are getting reviews soon. I actually don’t know if I’ll be buying anything that’s coming out in April, I think there’s 2 “maybe” games… but there’s a few other 2022 games I haven’t gotten to so it’s not like I ran out of stuff to play… thankfully. And I’ll have time to catch up on anime which is nice.
April 2022 has basically nothing to highlight, so I’m trying hard to get any content here. I’m highlighting: 3 multiplats, 5 Switch games, and one game journalist Sony fanboy fail. There’s one game of note pretty much. The rest is filler. This is also a “why is this a game that actually exists” kinda month, half these releases should probably not be a thing.
Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, small interesting ones I may notice, and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.
MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 04/05 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
The popularity of lego games confuses me, specifically because… they’re not particularly good. They’re fine, for kids, I guess, but you can get so much better stuff that for kids. Then attaching Disney Star Wars to it is just more cringe.
MLB The Show 22 04/05 (Switch, Xbone, PS4, Xbox X/S, PS5)
Sony releasing a game on Xbox and Switch… Kinda random. Not gonna care because it’s a boring baseball game though.
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition 04/07 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone)
This is THE big release this month. Yeah, this is it, the big release of April 2022 is a PS1 port. Good job game industry. That said, Chrono Cross has not seen the light of day on anything since PS1 so that’s nice to see, AND it includes the Super Famicom Satellaview exclusive game Radical Dreamers, which I believe is something of a text-based adventure game that connects Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. I actually haven’t really played much of Chrono Cross back in the day, I didn’t have a PS1 so my PS1 RPG time was very limited and I had to be pretty selective about it, so it was basically this or FF8 and I made my choice. So I believe I will pick this up, I’m pretty interested in finally giving it a proper try.
SWITCH RELEASES
The House of the Dead: Remake 04/07
I have no idea why this exists. Like, House of the Dead is fun and all… but this just feels like a waste of dev time for basically no return.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim 04/12
This was previously a PS4 exclusive. I wanted it because it’s Vanillaware, but I had basically put my PS4 to rest at that point so I didn’t end up getting it. I haven’t heard too much about it since it came out, with some vague comments about the story being fine… but I heard basically nothing about the gameplay, so I dunno. This is on the maybe list, but very far down on it.
Neptunia x SENRAN KAGURA: Ninja Wars 04/19
This was previously a PS4 exclusive too. It is coming out later this year to PC as well. I believe this is a Senran Kagura-style game, it just also happens to include Neptunia characters. I dunno if I care about this one much, it’s also far down on the maybe list.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 04/20
I believe this is a port of the Wii version of Force Unleashed, which I recall people liking because of the awful motion controls it had, and otherwise I vaguely remember it not being as good as on the other platforms. I don’t know why this is a thing.
Nintendo Switch Sports 04/29
It’s Wii Sports. On Switch. With nicer graphics I guess. And it requires the leg strap from ring fit for some of the games I guess, that’s weird. Yeah I’m not buying this game, it’s dumb!
PS4 RELEASES
Godfall 04/07
“Unfortunately, Godfall is not coming to PS4. Counterplay Games has previously stated they have no plans for a PS4 version because the game is being tailor-made for Sony’s new console, which means that many of the features the game will use are simply not possible on a PS4.”
lol. This excerpt comes from a so-called game journalism website, showing that the only thing dumber than a game journalist is a Sony fanboy game journalist. “This PS5 game is absolutely impossible on PS4” is such a stupid take, I can’t believe someone who writes about games would actually write that and still think they deserve a job.
That said, this game is apparently ass and I have no idea why they ported it to PS4. What a stupid waste of time.
