Hey on the same day as the Nintendo Direct how about that!

Well I didn’t notice any “leaks” for this one that aren’t entirely stupid… So my expectation is simply that this will be shit. Like every State of Play. These things are always awful. My expectations? Shitty games that won’t be exclusive to PS5, making this whole presentation pointless and stupid.

My general expectation for every State of Play is the same: even the best ones don’t have anything interesting, so no, matter how good this may end up being, it will still have been a shitty waste of time.

So yeah, let’s go I guess. Again, like the Nintendo Direct, this is a live reaction.

Very first game is that 3D QWOP-style game with the character that can’t fucking walk. I don’t remember what it’s called but it looks fucking awful. It’s streamer bait, pretty much. Hoping streamers will stream it and somehow convince their stupid fans to buy it. Baby Steps. Summer 2024.

Ghostbusters VR game. VR bad. Game looks kinda boring. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord. Coming october 26, what a bad birthday present.

First-person…. RE4? Yeah it’s the VR mode, something I think we saw before. Whatever man.

More RE4 stuff. It’s DLC about Ada. I assume that was already known too.

Multiplat Ubisoft game Avatar: Shitty Subtitle.  This is the third trailer I see for this game and they completely fail to make the gameplay look like… gameplay. I have no idea how this game fucking plays. This is dumb.

PC game Ghostrunner 2. I’ll play this on PC. They showed basically nothing.

The PS5 is red now! And also blue! And silver! Who cares!?

Multiplat game Helldivers 2. I think that was in another state of play before without any gameplay. Looks pretty boring. They’re doing this thing where they’re faking voice communications during their gameplay demonstration, it’s really bad, none of the people they got to do the voices can act. This shit is taking way too long for a game that doesn’t look very good.

Eventually-multiplat Spider-Man 2. We’re seeing a whole lot of nothing about it. Traversing the city still looks decently fun, but the actual gameplay (city traversal isn’t gameplay) doesn’t seem particularly impressive. The first game wasn’t. They keep bragging about the “power of the Playstation 5”, but it’s just SSD enabling fast loading. Nothing special. As shown by Ratchet and Clank, PC will do the same thing, and run the game at 4-5 times the framerate.

Tales of Arise… 2? Weird. Probably the only okay announcement we’ll get. But Tales of Arise was only okay, so whatever… Wait this is DLC, not 2. Tales of Arise DLC is a weird choice. So yeah, not a good announcement, good job.

Star Rails ad, let’s skip that.

Foamstars is getting an open beta. The video isn’t doing a good job at making this look good. Just play Splatoon. Even many of the supers are taken straight from Splatoon.

And Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2. They’re showing a bunch of cinematics of it, with some bits and bobs of travelling and a couple attacks. Okay. You really don’t need to be showing most of the game’s cinematics… Really not showing anything particularly interesting here. Not sure what they’re doing with that “OMG it comes in 2 discs” thing, which is just cheap nostalgia marketing, and not relevant if you buy it digitally.

AND that’s it… okay.

Overall

Like I said in the intros for today’s presentations… Nintendo Directs will always have a few good things, no matter how “bad” people consider it to be. Sony State of Plays will never have anything particularly interesting, no matter how “good” people consider it to be. And today this was true, as usual. The Nintendo Direct had many interesting announcements, while the State of Play could’ve not happened and you would be missing nothing.

Well nothing of note was shown, good job Sony. Was anything even announced? Everything here was stuff we already knew about… Unless the shitty Ghostbusters VR game is a new announcement, let me check… it’s not, it was announced last year.

So 0 announcements, zero interesting info. So what do I do for a rating? I guess… 1/10? I’m trying to be nice here, but if you announce nothing and give no info about other things… fuck off, you get a 0 or a 1.

What Sony needs to do with these presentation is show that the PS5 is worth buying. And after 3 years on the market, they have not managed to do that yet. It’s actually wild how awful that console is.
