Hey. So apparently I haven’t posted at all in January other than today. lol. I have a review halfway written for Mameda no Bakeru, I will get that done at some point. I also want to talk about Palworld. And I’m also playing through Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which has a depressingly awful localization so every time someone says something in japanese and the english translation is entirely wrong (which is almost every sentence), I just feel like playing it less… so I probably won’t review that because I probably won’t finish it. Disappointing because I was really hyped for it, but the fact that I understand japanese a bit is just sucking out the fun out.
So yeah, February is a month. It has games. I’m highlighting: 14 multiplats, 3 Switch games, 3 PC games, and a PS5 temporary exclusive. I remove a few remasters from the list because they were dumb, like Dark Forces and Brothers 😀 … It might seem like there’s a decent amount of games, but I dunno, there’s not much I’m all that hyped about. I’d say 1 “for sure” and like 3 maybes.
Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice, and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.
MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES
Granblue Fantasy: Relink 02/01 (PC, PS4, PS5)
This was interesting to me a billion years ago when it was originally announced to be in development from Platinum Games. It then changed devs and still took another million years to come out… but finally it’s gonna be out. Looks possibly cool, though enemies in some of the videos I saw looked like they were just massive HP sponges.
Persona 3 Reload 02/02 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbone, Xbox X/S)
You can literally already play Persona 3 on all these platforms. What’s the point of this? Don’t buy this.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League 02/02 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This game sucks, we know that because really stupid people actually paid money to play it early even though it looked like trash. I could’ve told you this game was awful years ago… I might have said it before actually. But people will keep buying shit no matter how bad it is.
Foamstars 02/06 (PS4, PS5)
This is the year of Nintendo getting copied, this time with “Splatoon but with foam”. It looks pretty okay from the videos I saw. It’s a low-price game and it’s meant to have free content updates as time goes. I don’t know if it’s doing microtransactions/season passes/other such scams. I’d wait to see if it does before getting this, though if you have PS Plus it’s included with your monthly fee so might as well try it if you have that.
Helldivers II 02/08 (PC, PS5)
Sony have been hyping up this game in every state of play for the last year or so… It’s a co-op shooter where you shoot at big alien bugs and it looks kinda… okay. I watched a few longer gameplay videos and it’s not impressing me, but I know a small handful of people are hyped for it.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden 02/13 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is made by DON’T NOD, so I will assume it’s bad and not inform myself about it.
… Okay I did watch a video for it, specifically the gameplay overview. It seems like an actual video game which is surprising from this studio (last time they did that was in 2013 with Remember Me). It has combat and stuff with guns and swords and magic shit. The video was so pretentious I could hardly pay attention, but it did have some RPG mechanics. I dunno, I’m not impressed by it.
Ultros 02/13 (PC, PS4, PS5)
An obnoxiously colorful metroidvania. Like, it looks great, but holy shit the colors. It looks okay. There’s just a lot of metroidvanias and a lot of them end up being very average at this point. Might be worth a look, I don’t think I will.
Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore 02/14 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox X/S)
LIMITED RUN GAMES HATE.
Anyways, this is actually a kinda fun release. It’s a side-scrolling platformer, made in the style of Zelda… Specifically Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon. The music, graphical “style” and cutscenes are very close to those CD-i classics, though the gameplay is way fucking smoother. Actually doesn’t look too bad. I am curious about this and might get it.
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft 02/14 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
It’s the first 3 Tomb Raider games but the graphics aren’t as good. These are commonly on sale on Steam for like 3$, just buy that instead of being scammed by a useless remaster.
Gunvolt Records Cychronicle 02/15 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is a rhythm game based on Gunvolt. I don’t know why, but I’m not against it. I just won’t get it. Looks like a kinda average phone rhythm game, with what looks like touch screen controls maybe?
Skull and Bones 02/16 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
I played one of the beta versions of this trash. It’s really fucking boring. And that’s not the best reason not to get it, the best reason to not get it is that it’s Ubisoft and they’re a shit company that you should stop buying from.
Slave Zero X 02/21 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is a cool-looking side-scrolling beat ’em up with “Sega Saturn” visuals and “DMC”-like combos. It actually seems pretty fun. There’s a demo I haven’t tried, I should check it out though. Apparently it’s actually a sequel to Slave Zero on the Dreamcast, though the gameplay style is completely different.
Yohane the Parhelion: Numazu in the Mirage 02/22 (Switch, PC, PS5)
This is a Love Live thing. Specifically it’s a… Slay the Spire-style card-based deck-building roguelite Love Live thing. It actually doesn’t look too bad. Basically Slay the Spire with cute anime girls. There’s a demo, I’ll try it out.
Ufouria: The Saga 2 02/29 (Switch, PC)
This is a sequel to the first Hebereke, which is an NES/Famicom game that never saw an american release. It was a pretty cool game though and did get an official translation in the EU and Australia (Sunsoft America thought the character designs were “too quirky”). It’s a platformer with multiple playable characters, and it should be pretty good.
SWITCH RELEASES
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 02/16
Unlike most other remasters this month that I decided to ignore, this is actually for a game you can’t just get for a couple bucks on Steam, and it’s also actually good. It’s an evolution of the classic Donkey Kong arcade game’s gameplay, and a gameplay style we haven’t seen in the Mario and DK series since… literally the GBA version of this. And it has new levels. And thankfully it’s not a full-price game.
Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island 02/27
It’s a Shiren the Wanderer game. If you’ve played one, you know exactly what you’re getting. It’s the progenitor of the Mystery Dungeon series (the same one the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games comes from), so it’s a roguelike where you do things that are like rogue. Not a huge fan of these myself.
PC RELEASES
Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance 02/21
This is an RTS game in the Terminator universe… Don’t have much to say about it, just thought it was a cool one to highlight.
Last Epoch 02/21
This is a game that’s been in Steam Early Access for literally 5 years. It’s a Diablo-style game where you do Diablo-style things. It has Very Positive recent reviews on Steam. Might be interesting I dunno. I had this as a “hype game” on some list at some point, I don’t really remember it though.
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin 02/27
This has ALSO been in Steam Early Access for literally 5 years. It was meant to come out… like… literally every year since 2020… but now it is actually coming out. This is a “retro-style” 3D FPS in the style of Unreal and the like. Looks pretty cool. I might get it.
PS5 RELEASE
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth 02/29
This is part 2 of the FF7 remake. Maybe in 4 more years the full game will finally be out and I’ll finally get it. I’m just waiting, fuck buying episodic stuff.
