I actually haven’t played that much new stuff in October… I’m still just playing through Metaphor which is taking a while. I did get Card-en-ciel but haven’t started it yet. Ys X is out today but I haven’t picked it up yet. I might not have too much to talk about in my monthly post thing.
So anyway, November. Usually a month with some of the bigger releases of the year… Not this year lol! I’m highlighting: 1 Switch game and 16 multiplats. I’m for sure getting 3 games in there. Not a very big month overall.
Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice and such. This is not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. Of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.
SWITCH RELEASES
Mario & Luigi: Brothership 11/07
It’s a new Mario & Luigi game, something we didn’t think would happen after AlphaDream was shuttered. This one is handled in part by Acquire (who, among MANY other games, made Octopath Traveller).
This looks very similar to the other games in the series, just with really fuckingĀ nice 3D graphics. I haven’t looked into it too much since it’s an insta-buy anyways, but the little I saw looked really solid. I just hope it’s better than Dream Team and Paper Jam.
MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES
Farmagia 11/01 (PC, Switch, PS5)
This is a farming monster-raising game with characters designed by the person who did Groove Adventure Rave. Looking at some of the mechanics, it gives me some Monster Rancher vibes when it comes to training the monsters, though the combat (which gives almost Pikmin vibes) and team-building is obviously very different. What you farm is literally the monsters, a plant will grow and when you harvest it it’s a monster that comes out, it seems (maybe there’s other crops I have no idea).
I dunno, looks okay, maybe. I’m curious to see what people think of it.
Aero the Acro-Bat: Rascal Rival Revenge 11/01 (Switch, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is a port of a GBA remake of the first Aero the Acro-Bat… I don’t really know why I’m highlighting this, I guess I might as well because I highlighted the others. Feels like a kinda dumb release, but maybe that GBA version had some different stuff from the original?
Metal Slug Tactics 11/05 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbone, Xbox X/S)
Finally it’s coming out! I played the demo for this, it was pretty cool actually, despite having very little to do with Metal Slug gameplay-wise. It’s a turn-based strategy game not all that different from Final Fantasy Tactics, but it’s a roguelite kinda deal with different map types with different objectives and stuff. It’s fun I’ll get it.
Planet Coaster 2 11/06 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
I kinda missed that this was even being made… or forgot about it along the way. I never played the first one, it looks cool as shit though. I’ll probably watch whatever videos Let’s Game It Out makes of it. Should be fun.
River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next 11/07 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5)
It’s a sequel to the previous River City Saga: Three Kingdoms. This looks like much of the same. It’s River City Ransom except in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story… But this time you get a motorcycle! It’s probably gonna be fine.
Empire of the Ants 11/07 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
I almost ignored this one because… whatever man… But then I thought “Does this have to do with Bernard Werber’s books?” because of the structure of the title… and yeah it does actually. Which I guess makes sense since this is coming from Microids, a french company that’s been making (among other things) a bunch of games for french licenses like Asterix, Smurfs, Marsupilami, Tintin, and others. Bernard Werber is a french writer so yeah… makes sense. Bernard Werber happens to be my favorite author from back in my high school/early college days, which is why I wondered if this was related (though I haven’t read any of his books in a long-ass time).
The game itself? It has ant platforming, but more importantly it has base building and real time strategy battles where you order troops around and find food and do ant things. Visually looks great, not sure the gameplay looks too exciting but maybe some strategy fans will enjoy it.
Slitterhead 11/08 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is some action combat game where you play as a spirit that can possess people at a certain range, and combat against monsters has you body-switching to random bystanders instead of just normally dodging attacks. Looks pretty interesting conceptually. I’ll wait to see what people think of it.
Farming Simulator 25 11/12 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This sure is another Farming Simulator. Not into these kinds of games but they’re popular so I’m sure plenty of people are gonna pick it up.
Tetris Forever 11/12 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbone, Xbox X/S)
It’s a new Tetris, with “15+” tetris games from history including some weirder ones like Battle Gaiden (note: this one is awesome, I have the Super Famicom cartridge of it), Hatris and Bombliss… but no Wetrix or 3D Tetris from the virtual boy it seems. You can play all these various versions separately it seems, but there’s modes where you can end up switching to different versions of Tetris and stuff, or in multiplayer you can keep playing whatever the normal version is but cause your opponents to time warp and have to clear challenges in older versions or something. I dunno, it’s Tetris, should be fun.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake 11/14 (Switch, PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Let’s start by saying… fuck the weirdo westerners telling the original creator of DQ that he NEEDS to censor character designs and stuff like calling women “body type b” (which is super sexist) to be able to release the game in the west, which is something he has stated is ridiculous and stupid to deal with. I agree, they’re being lied to and shouldn’t have to do that. Censorship of art is evil 100% of the time.
That said… I’m buying this anyways because I fucking love DQ3, but I’ll do this while being critical of the decisions to pointlessly mess with the original game’s artistry. I’ve been waiting for this one for a while and I won’t let EVIL prevent me from enjoying it. It looks fantastic gameplay-wise, as it should be because it’s fucking Dragon Quest 3. I’ve actually skipped getting the other version of DQ3 that’s on Switch for a while because I was just gonna get this one instead. Pretty hyped for this.
Lego Horizon Adventures 11/14 (Switch, PC, PS5)
There’s no way Horizon isn’t some kind of weird psyop at this point. We’re being fooled into thinking it’s this big iconic series even though people don’t really care about it. Like, yeah the games are good (I haven’t played the sequel yet), but they’re really nothing special that are worth the constant weird push of it like when it was in Genshin for some reason. The character designs aren’t memorable, the world itself is fairly boring outside of the robot dinos, the story isn’t particularly interesting… I dunno what it is about it.
Also I don’t really care about the lego games. Last one I played is one of the Lego Batman games on 360, it was very okay… like, decently fun for kids but holy shit was it simplistic and not something I’d get kids to play personally. I think kids deserve better than that. And I don’t know that there’s any kid that gives a shit about Horizon especially compared to any other franchise that had lego crossovers. Who is this for?
Touhou Spell Carnival 11/19 (Switch, PS4, PS5)
This is a Touhou game, which is always fun to highlight… especially when they’re weird. I never end up playing them, but I frequently think they’re at least interesting. This game is a tactical RPG bullet hell. Movement is grid-based but real-time. So you order characters to move around the grid, but you can try to make them move in such a way to avoid bullets, and obviously you also tell them when to shoot your own bullets and other attacks. Looks wacky as heck and awkward.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 11/19 (PC, Xbox X/S)
It’s Microsoft Flight Simulator.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl 11/20 (PC, Xbox X/S)
I have no familiarity with the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I know it exists and that’s about it. It’s one that is a long time in the making, with it being meant to release in 2012 but getting cancelled. I assume this version is different from the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 just because of the 12 years in-between.
This one… looks great visually. The gameplay… looks like a fairly standard first-person-y shoot-y game, with some crazy supernatural shit going on. It looks like there’s a lot of exploration involved to find upgrades and oh no it’s open world. I’ll probably need some convincing on this one as far as my tastes, but it does look pretty solid. I know a lot of people have been looking forward to this.
Snow Bros. Wonderland 11/28 (Switch, PS4, PS5)
Hello old irrelevant series getting a (real official) sequel for the first time since 1994. This shit is super extra niche at this point. This is the first 3D game in the series, which has snowball-rolling attacks very similar to the classic arcade/NES game, but also platforming that gives a vibe of “what if you could jump in Captain Toad”…. Doesn’t look terrible, I just wonder why it’s even being made. If I can buy it for 10$ I will do it.
