It’s December! I’ll probably do a few posts during the month, near the end, such GotY awards that have way more relevance than Geoff’s VGAs and hype for next year. But there’s also games coming out in december which is pretty cool I guess. Some of them are even interesting.
For December 2024 I am highlighting: 11 multiplats, 3 Switch games and a PC title. I’m not getting much in here I think. One game is for sure, and there’s like 4-5 maybes. Not a huge month, but I’d say a bit better than the average december.
Anyways, let’s go!
Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice and such. This is not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. Of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.
MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES
Antonblast 12/03 (Switch, PC)
This is a game very much inspired by the Wario Land series, specifically Shake It. You might find that it has a lot in common with the great Pizza Tower as well. There is a demo I haven’t played, but the trailers I saw make it look pretty dang fun.
Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age 12/03 (Switch, PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is a cool-looking 2v2 fighting game with lane-based combat, similar to Fatal Fury (and one of the Guilty Gear games… Isuka I think?). The gameplay looks really fun, though I question the 2v2 concept. I assume there’s a regular 1v1 mode too. It’s made in part by Mike Z, the creator of Skullgirls, after he had his game and company stolen from him by evil douchebags.
Infinity Nikki 12/05 (PC, PS4, PS5, phones)
This is a free-to-play game. I played the beta for this and it was actually pretty fun. It’s a pretty quiet cozy game, basically a small open world (might be bigger in the full game) where you travel around, find shit, craft outfits to dress up your character, do a shitload of sidequests… It’s pretty cool. I don’t think I’ll play the full version, but it’s one I’d recommend checking out.
Weird that it’s only on EGS on PC.
Fantasian Neo Dimension 12/05 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is a console-RPG that was on a platform that is not real. After a few years, it is now coming to real platforms, which is pretty cool. Looking at videos of it… I’m not sure I like the environmental visuals at all and it has a bit of a cheap look to it, but the actual gameplay looks decent enough, it seems like a pretty standard console-RPG. I might check this out.
Path of Exile 2 (Early Access) 12/06 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
I just noticed this was on last month’s list. I’m not sure what happened, must have just been incorrect information on the internets, so I took that out.
Yeah not much else to say compared to last month. I am still surprised to see early access games coming out on console. The game itself looks pretty cool, I think I’ll at least try it out despite not having played the first one. The Diablo 2 inspiration is pretty cool and the devs seem to have some interesting ideas with it.
Marvel Rivals 12/06 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is Overwatch with Marvel characters. Or Deadlock with Marvel characters I guess, since it’s third-person. I watched a few matches and there’s so much shit going on I’m not sure what I’m looking at most of the time, but it looks okay enough. It did get pretty good impressions in its betas, from what I’ve seen. I’m absolutely not trying this.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle 12/09 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is an “oh yeah this is coming out” kinda deal because it’s not being advertised at all despite coming out next week, and it’s not only an Indiana Jones game, but one published by Bethesda and made by Machine Games (who I guess haven’t made much of note after both reviving Wolfenstein and then ruining what they had with Youngblood… other than classic Doom and Quake episodes for some reason). Like, this should be all over the place but not a lot of people are discussing it, nor is Bethesda really pushing it.
I think a big mistake of this game is making it first-person, I feel like people would want to see Indy. It has a lot of fisticuffs and stealth. The combat doesn’t look particularly interesting and the stealth looks really easy, but it might be one where it’s funner to actually play than watch. And I like some of the things I see like the platforming and puzzling in tombs/temples.
I hope this is good, I’ll wait for a friend who has game pass to try it and let me know if it’s good.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered 12/10 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox X/S, Xbone)
Soul Reaver was kinda huge back when it originally came out. I’d constantly see people talking about how great it was back in the day… And I never played it. I have no idea what this is, I never even watched videos of it or anything like that. A big game that flew under my radar for very long.
Looking at a few trailers this gives me some 3D Zelda vibes, so I wonder if it’s actually an action-adventure game, rather than an RPG like I always assumed it was… like I said, this flew way under my radar so I know nothing about it. It looks cool, I might actually check this one out and see what I’ve been missing out on this whole time.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind 12/10 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox X/S, Xbone)
This is a 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up that looks pretty standard. It has a few different gameplay modes in addition like “behind-the-player” levels in the original contra, motorcycle stages and bosses that are like Goemon Impact battles in Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon where you’re using the megazord. This looks kinda cool but I don’t know if I want it.
Fairy Tail 2 12/11 on PC, 12/13 on Switch, PS4, PS5
This is another Fairy Tail game by… I think the same studio that also does the Atelier series. It’s a turn-based console-RPG that looks pretty okay. I’m not sure I’m that interested, as I didn’t play the first one and never finished watching the anime.
Tokyo Clanpool 12/19 (PC, Switch)
This was prevented from coming to Steam because they’re anime racists (they’re really weird about anime games for some reason), but it’s coming to GOG instead. Also I am noting a Switch release, but it’s seemingly only in Asia (which you can import if you want a physical version), not sure if it’s also coming to the eshop too.
It’s one of them first-person grid-based dungeon crawling RPGs, with cute anime girls. Looks decent from what I’ve seen. I will grab it.
SWITCH RELEASES
Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer 12/05
I don’t know what new features this has, but I played the first 2 and they’re pretty decent fitness games. Any of them are good ones to check out if you want to even just get started into doing some fitness shit.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic 12/05
I kinda don’t know why I put this here, I guess it’s just the fact that it’s such a weird release. How do you even play this without a mouse and keyboard? Anyways… get this on PC.
Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa Mo Teiban! Asia Edition 12/12
Momotaro Dentetsu is finally getting an english translation, officially! And it’s only coming out in Asia. But I figured it was a fun release to point out because of how popular this is in Japan, and how little known it is outside of Japan generally (this game specifically has over 3 million copies sold in Japan).
This is a spinoff of the Momotaro Densetsu series (notice the slight title change) which was an RPG, this one being a train-based board game that has some Monopoly vibes. Funny enough, the main series has been basically dead since 1993, while the board game spin-off has been going strong. I won’t get this, but it’s one I think is a fun one to check.
PC RELEASE
Delta Force (Early Access) 12/04
Delta Force? Huh… I remember this series being semi-popular back in the day, didn’t think I’d see it come back. It was a military FPS series with 9 games between 1998 and 2009, and then it just disappeared, until now.
This is early access which I don’t frequently point out, but this is just a weird, interesting revival. From what I understand this will have a paid campaign and a free-to-play multiplayer with microtransactions. It’s meant to be a more tactical sort of FPS.
What little I’ve seen of it looks decent enough. Not my kinda game, but one I thought is interesting to point out.
