Games coming out in March 2022

Well, I’m going in with this post a bit earlier than usual. The reason why is the same reason I posted my Sifu review before fully finishing it… because things are about to get WILD. Monark is out tomorrow, Elden Ring is out on Friday… and March has a LOT of games. So I’m just getting a bit ahead of the game here, basically.

For March 2022 I’m highlighting: 15 multiplats, 7 Switch games, and 2 PC releases. That number doesn’t look like anything special in a vacuum, but what IS special is what games are there.

Literally, I’m buying at least 8 of these for sure, and there are several “maybes” as well. And even some of the games I’m not interested in myself ARE huge, or look really cool but might not be something I’m that interested in. This might be one of the biggest months in gaming in YEARS.

Let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, small interesting ones I may notice, and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES

Shadow Warrior 3 03/01 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
shadow warrior 3
Shadow Warrior 2 was pretty okay, but it being a loot-based game with repeating levels was a bit… eh. This seems to forgo the loot system and makes a more standard linear shooter, and I think that’s to its advantage. I kinda want this.

ELEX II 03/01 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
elex 2
From the little I’ve seen of the first ELEX, it had a souls-like feel to it, maybe a bit cheaper. Just didn’t seem particularly interesting to me. Might be good, I just don’t know because it didn’t do much to catch my interest. I guess it did well enough to warrant a sequel, so good job on that. I hope fans are happy with it.

Babylon’s Fall 03/03 (PC, PS4, PS5)
Babylon's Fall
Platinum Games… making a “Game as a Service” game. It’s a game that had me excited because Platinum and the gameplay looked very promising in these early trailers, but that’s before we knew it was a “Game as a Service”. Then, after a long wait, we saw REAL gameplay and… oof. Yeah, I’m not interested in this anymore. I watched more gameplay videos just in case. My impressions aren’t getting any better. It just kinda looks slow and boring, and the GaaS concept ruins it for me.

Gran Turismo 7 03/04 (PS4, PS5)
gran turismo 7
It’s Gran Turismo. It’ll probably be fine, I’ve gotten over realistic racing games a long time ago though, so I don’t care. Still a huge release for the PS4.

Dawn of the Monsters 03/15 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)

It looks really cool, being a kaiju-based Beat ’em Up. Something we don’t get much of. Something like King of the Monsters, except this is purely side-scrolling rather than having an isometric view. Seems very interesting, I will get it.

The Cruel King and the Great Hero 03/15 (Switch, PS4)
The Cruel King and the Great Hero
I was originally thinking, based on the title and graphical style, that it would be something similar to “The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince” which didn’t interest me at all, but it turns out it’s this cute little RPG. It still has these storytelling-style cutscenes and stuff, but it does look like it might be okay gameplay-wise. It’s on the maybe list, this month is pretty heavy so if I play this, it’ll be much later.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia 03/15 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone)
Phantom Breaker: Omnia
It’s a pretty standard anime fighting game. Looks fine. It has the cringiest trailer I’ve ever seen. This is people who aren’t funny trying really hard to be funny.
… but yeah, the game looks fine.

Grand Theft Auto V 03/15 (PS5, Xbox X/S)
gtav
This shitty old PS3 game is finally coming to new systems, for some reason. I have no idea why they’re releasing this, everyone has this game already. I have it and I don’t even like GTA past the first 2 games (and Chinatown Wars was okay). Very ignorable release.

Tunic 03/16 (PC, Xbone, Xbox X/S)
tunic
This game has been shown at E3 events and stuff for a while now. But it’s finally coming out! It’s this top-down Zelda-inspired action-adventure game that looks pretty fun. I believe it’s made by a single person too, which makes it extra interesting to me. One to keep an eye out for.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax 03/17 (Switch, PC, PS4)
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
P4A is a very good anime fighter. I don’t think this adds anything over the previous Ultimax version, it has whatever DLC that may have had I guess, so Margaret and whatever other characters were DLC.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin 03/18 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
(stole this image from a youtube account called “Bestie Boy” who I guess made this amazing thumbnail for a really cringe video)

I kinda wanted to play the demos for this first, but Squeenix was weird and decided to only release them on PS5. Which is dumb. So I’ll be going in very blind since the first 2 trailers (which is all I watched) didn’t give a great idea of what the gameplay is really gonna be like. It does seem interesting, being a sort of prequel to FF1 I guess. Seems to have some interesting gameplay ideas based on those first 2 trailers and a few bits of info I saw here and there, as far as the class system and how combat is meant to work.

I’M GOING TO KILL CHAOS

Ghostwire: Tokyo 03/24 (PC, PS5)
Ghostwire: Tokyo
This looks kinda interesting. It’s a horror-themed first-person combat game, in an open-world (which I hope isn’t bad like most open worlds), where the things you fight are based on ghosts from Japanese folklore and you have supernatural abilities to fight said yokai. I think it looks fun, I have it pre-ordered so I guess we’ll see!

Relayer 03/24 (PS4, PS5)
Relayer
This is a turn-based strategy game where you pit your team of customizable mechs against the bad guys. There are pretty nice attack animations. Looks pretty cool. It’s on the maybe list.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 03/25 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
Like most people with a brain, I fucking hate Tiny Tina. And I didn’t end up liking Borderlands 3 despite being a big fan of the first 2 Borderland games. This is basically my “last chance”, not just for Borderlands, but for Gearbox as a whole (a truly shitty company). So I’ll let you know if it sucks!

Weird West 03/31 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
Weird West
This is a game that looks pretty interesting. Looking at the gameplay, it does give me a lot of conflicting messages. Seems RPG-ish in a Diablo kinda sense where you can blast the shit out of people with badass magic, but there’s also stealth and cool use of environmental objects. Looks like it could be fun. I’d wait to see some reviews.

SWITCH RELEASES

Triangle Strategy 03/04
Triangle Strategy
This is another project from the Octopath Traveler team, but this is more Final Fantasy Tactics-inspired. It has does the HD-2D thing so it looks great. Sounds like there are several endings/story routes, that being the “triangle” part of the title. Seems like a good time to me. I played the very first demo (not the newer one that you can transfer the save from) and it was cool. Definitely one I’m getting this month.

Chocobo GP 03/10
Chocobo GP

I was so surprised when this was announced, considering how long ago Chocobo Racing was, and the fact that it’s not a game people talk about much, even though it was a pretty fun game. This comes from an era where Mario Kart rip-offs weren’t as much of a thing as they are now. Heck, a lot of online commentary I’ve seen tells me that people didn’t even know it existed. I’m pretty excited to try this out, and it is getting a demo (called the Lite version) if you’re not sure, with limited courses and racers. I’ll at least get the demo, I do want to give this one a review at some point.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode 03/10
.hack//G.U. Last Recode

This is a remaster of the .hack//G.U. trilogy from the PS2, which itself is a sequel to a quadrilogy of .hack games also on PS2. I’ve only played the very first game in the original .hack quadrilogy. It was pretty interesting, basically a fairly standard JRPG, but here you’re playing as someone who is playing an MMORPG. So basically you’re playing a not-real MMO. This remaster came out on PC and PS4 as well, so this is just another option to play it. Might be worth checking out.

Gal Gun: Double Peace 03/17
Gal Gun: Double Peace

It’s Gal Gun. This came out between 1 and 2, it’s very similar to them. It’s fun wacky shit.

Rune Factory 5 03/22
Rune Factory 5

I’ve actually never played a Rune Factory game. I’m not 100% sure this is my kinda thing, but it does seem interesting, with it being a combination of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, but also having action RPG elements. Seems like a good time. I may pick this up at a later point when we’re in a less busy month maybe.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land 03/25
kirby and the forgotten land

The last Kirby release was a mistake. Nintendo tried something different with Star Allies where you’d always need to have 3 allies following you, winning boss battles for you, and the puzzles being so stupid the game literally solves them for you… Sometimes trying something new is not a good thing… Star Allies is a really stupid game, the first bad mainline Kirby.

This game though… looks pretty cool. It’s a 3D take on Kirby, with a Mario 3D World kinda look and feel to how levels are set up (I keep seeing people thinking this is an open world, or comparable to Mario Odyssey… but it’s clearly more like 3D World). I only properly watched the very first trailer for this and avoided everything else (except of course I saw the Kirby Car… that’s terrifying). While Star Allies left a bad taste in my mouth, what I’ve seen from this game does actually look great. So I’m very hyped for it. I hope Kirby redeems itself after the awful Star Allies. Will be reviewing this ASAP, for sure.

Crystar 03/29
Crystar

This was originally on PS4 and PC. It’s a pretty okay-looking action RPG. I haven’t played it before, it’s on my “if I ever run out of shit to play” list. It’s staying there, but at least it’s another option of platform for if I ever end up deciding to buy it.

PC RELEASES

The Settlers 03/17
The Settlers

This is a reboot of the Settlers series, which is a classic RTS series where you build a base of settlers, defend it, and manage resources. I completely missed that they were doing this. It looks okay, some of the previous ones were fine. It is a reboot so I assume there’s something they’re fucking up.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut 03/30
Death Stranding Director's Cut
A special edition of a shitty game. Yay. Now you can be bored for even longer… on PC, so you’ll be bored at higher resolution, better graphic quality and more framerate! Yeah, I think this was released on some of the playstations before.
