Games coming out in April 2023

Well, like I said in the previous post, I will continue doing these release posts. I’ve been actually not playing much as far as new games, and couldn’t really review anything anyways. Like, I’m near the end of Octopath 2 but I kinda got tired of it. I’m playing like 2 levels of Pizza Tower ever other week pretty much… And that’s about it though I might buy 9 Years of Shadows. There’s something I am playing, but I will do a post about it soon because… why not!

For April 2023 I’m highlighting 15 multiplats and 1 Switch games. Not much of note here but a few interesting titles. I also decided to remove some highlights, trying to be more focused on actually interesting stuff. I’m

Let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice, and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES

GrimGrimoire OnceMore 04/04 (Switch, PS4, PS5)

GrimGrimoire was this pretty interesting, side-scrolling 2D RTS game on PS2. This is an HD remaster with what seems to be fairly minimal new content. I’d say it’s the VanillaWare game that gets least talked about, but it deserves some love if you haven’t played it before.

Hogwarts Legacy 04/04 (PS4, Xbone)
Hogwarts Legacy
The biggest game of the year, coming to other systems late for some reason. And the Switch is getting it even later than this too.
And… I’m not interested based on what I’ve seen.

Everspace 2 04/06 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
Everspace 2
Everspace was a cool space exploration-based roguelite that… I remember having fun with, but I don’t really remember much about it. I have this on my maybe list.

Process of Elimination 04/11 (Switch, PC)

This is a detective game which I assume is very VN-like, but the investigation segments have what looks like a strategy style to them where you give orders to units (or something).

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection 04/14 (Switch, PC, PS4)
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection
The Battle Network series is probably the most under-appreciated from the Blue Bomber’s legacy. This is an upscaled version with filters that make it look worse (I think they’re optional). This is the entire  series split into 2 volumes. Volume 2 has the worst games in the series (4 and 5 are pretty bleh, 6 is okay), while volume 1 has the best in the series (2 and 3 are great, 1 is okay). This includes online play which might be really cool for people who have actually been running tournaments of this series (that’s a real thing check it out).

Minecraft Legends 04/18 (PC, Switch, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Minecraft Legends
This is some action RTS game in the minecraft universe where you build shit and destroy shit and it doesn’t look very fun.

God of Rock 04/18 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
God of Rock
This is a rhythm fighting game… it doesn’t look particularly interesting but I think it’s something guitar hero streamers will find interesting for a few mintues.

Trinity Trigger 04/25 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5)
Trinity Trigger
This is a top-down action RPG that gives me major Secret of Mana vibes. It looks quite fun. I’m really curious about trying this one out.

Afterimage 04/25 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Afterimage
This is a side-scrolling platformer with cool attacks that is probably also a metroidvania, because it’s an indie game so it has to be a metroidvania… Yeah okay I checked and it is indeed a metroidvania. It’s not really doing anything that makes me want to jump into it right now, but might be worth checking out.

Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord 04/25 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5)
Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord
I have not played the previous games (game? I think one of the previous ones is a remaster of the first one). No idea if it’s good or not. I used to be all in on these animu RPGs, but a lot of recent ones have been a bit on the eh side of things.

Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat! 04/27 (PC, Switch, PS4)
Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat!
This came out previously on PS5. I heard literally nothing about it.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox 04/27 (PC, Xbone, Xbox X/S)
The Last Case of Benedict Fox
I remember the trailer for this being pretty cool. Not something I wanted to play, but it might be cool, being a metroidvania with some lovecraft visuals to it…. again, too many samey metroidvanias recently.

Live A Live 04/27 (PC, PS4, PS5)
Live A Live
This HD-2D remaster of Live A Live came out on Switch last year. It was a… very okay-ish game. It had a lot of hype due to beling the first time it came out outside of Japan, but I feel it doesn’t even come close to live up to the hype of other SNES RPGs. A lot of the chapters are genuinely not fun.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 04/28 (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order had a bit of the case of the “generic modern action game”, but the Star Wars paint on it helped a bit, it being the only good Star Wars product since Disney paid George Lucas millions for the opportunity to fuck the franchise up. It was a pretty okay time.
This one seems like more of the same, which in this case isn’t a terrible thing. I’ll probably get it.

Dead Island 2 04/28 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Dead Island 2
Dead Island was a shit game. No idea why they decided to take a billion years to make a sequel.

SWITCH RELEASE

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp 04/21
advance wars 1+2: re-boot camp

Oh hey the game that Nintendo indefinitely delayed because of the Ukraine war, and then decided to release anyways despite the Ukraine war not being over. Weird.
That said, Advance Wars is great and it’s such a shame that, when it finally makes a comeback, it’s a fucking collection of the old games… Like, yeah, you should buy it. But man would a new game be so much better.
