Well March was a kinda disappointing month, not to spoil my march update post too much. I don’t really have much to say as an intro beyond… it’s important to continue noticing.
This month I’m highlighting: 10 multiplats, 1 Switch game, 1 PS5 game and 2 PC games. A bit of a quiet month but there’s actually some exciting stuff this month, unlike last month, with a few games I’m getting for sure.
I was gonna highlight Another Crab’s Treasure because it’s a game I thought looked fun, but the devs are assholes so that’s squarely on the “don’t buy it” list. They don’t like gamers so gamers shouldn’t give them money, very simple.
Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice, and such. This is not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. Of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.
MULTIPLATFORM GAMES
Freedom Planet 2 04/04 (Switch, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This came out on PC 2 years ago, the console version just took a while to come out. The first game was very Sonic-like, this has a bit more of its own feel while keeping the Sonic-like level design, but also I found it not quite as fun as the first one.
Grounded 04/16 (Switch, PS4, PS5)
I know very little about this, I know it was heavily pushed by Microsoft on Xbox and PC but I never even saw anyone play it. I guess it’s a first-person crafting survival game… I’d rather just play Palworld TBH.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes 04/23 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This was a big success on kickstarter 4 years ago, and it’s finally coming out! It’s a Suikoden-style RPG with over 100 playable characters and a cool retro graphical style. I will be commenting on this one once I’ve played it (we’ll see when I do, because another RPG is a priority for me this month).
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants 04/23 (PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
This is actually a home port of a TMNT arcade game from 2017. TBH, looking at this, it seems inferior to most other TMNT beat ’em ups. Just get the Cowabunga collection, TBH. Or Shredder’s Revenge.
Megaton Musashi: Wired 04/25 (Switch, PC, PS4, PS5)
This is an enhanced port of a game from 2021 that was japanese only. So this is the localization. It’s a mecha action game where you can customize your robot, it looks pretty fun when there’s actually gameplay going on. It does look like there’s way too much non-gameplay moments, at least in the early game. A video with the first 2 hours of the game features a segment of over an hour without any actual gameplay, which is a bit baffling for this sort of game. It seemed a bit more gameplay-focused by the end of that 2 hour video (showing some of the customization options and such), so maybe it just has a really slow boring intro.
SaGa: Emerald Beyond 04/25 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
SaGa is something of a guilty pleasure for some, since it’s a kinda-weird RPG series with non-standard gameplay. Scarlet Grace was the last new game in the series (there were a lot of remasters and such in-between) and I enjoyed it a lot, especially the combat. This game seems to be pretty similar to it. This is one of my more hyped games this year, can’t wait to pick it up!
Sand Land 04/25 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox X/S)
I actually am not very familiar with Sand Land, beyond knowing it’s by Akira Toriyama. I do have the anime lined up to check it out, and I played the demo for this game which was pretty interesting but I am pretty sure it was lacking a lot of the gameplay design the final game will have (since it is just a demo). This does come out at the same time as both SaGa and Eiyuden which I think I’ll prioritize over this, but it does look fun. It’s an open world action game with RPG elements and vehicle combat/customization and what I played of it was pretty fun.
Class of Heroes 1 & 2: Complete Edition 04/26 (Switch, PS5)
I feel like I had that somewhere else before, maybe not… but anyways, this is just a small collection of the PSP dungeon crawlers. Kinda random release, but I remember these being pretty decent.
Braid Anniversary Edition 04/30 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone, PS5, Xbox X/S)
Braid is a kinda cool puzzle platformer with time-related mechanics and a twist ending. It had a lot of hype back when it first came out on 360 for being pretty good and also a cheap download-only game (a bit of a novelty at the time on consoles). I liked it, but wouldn’t replay it really, even with extra content which this seems to have (I’m seeing something about 35 new levels).
This was supposed to come out in 2021. Curious what happened? Anyways, if it costs more than the original did at launch, just buy the original on Steam. It drops down to ~ 3$ several times a year (it was 80% off just a few days ago).
Sea of Thieves 04/30 (PS5, PS4)
Sea of Thieves sucks, but now you can experience the suck on Playstation. Yay?
SWITCH GAMES
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron 04/28
El Shaddai is a DMC-like action game with a strange story and some weird mechanics, that I thought was pretty cool back when it came out on PS3. It did get a PC release a few years ago, and now that’s coming to just Switch for some reason.
PS5 GAMES
Stellar Blade 04/26
Been excited to see this game since it was called Project EVE and was announced to be a PC game (it was announced for PS4, PC and Xbone). Well now it’s a PS5 probably-timed-exclusive, which is a huge shame.
The game looks really fun, seems to have really interesting combat with a focus on perfect parries. Graphically looks solid too. It’s almost tempting me to waste money on a PS5, but I don’t think I will… probably.
PC GAMES
Ereban: Shadow Legacy 04/10
This is a kinda cool looking stealth-ish game where you have the ability to move in the shadows. Seems interesting, not sure I’ll try it but I think it might be worth at least checking out. There WAS a demo for it during some Steam event but I missed it… temporary demos are dumb 😀
Phantom Fury 04/23
This is the sequel to Ion Fury. Ion Fury was an FPS made in the style of Duke Nukem 3D using the same engine (Build Engine). Phantom Fury, instead of going the Duke Nukem 3D style again, is going the Duke Nukem Forever style. But not the Duke Nukem Forever that actually came out. Instead it’s very similar to the unreleased Duke Nukem Forever that we only ever saw a few trailers of (until eventually a playable version of some of it was leaked). Looks pretty cool.
