Switch 2, Mario Kart World and related stuff

switch 2 donkey kong thing

I got the Switch 2 at launch. It’s been a few weeks. It’s been solid so far. So I figure I’ll talk about it quickly.

So I’ll talk about the console, the good, the bad, the controllers, some of the cool features of it, some of the uncool features of it, and some of the games I played, and I’ll dunk on the PS5 because why not.

Let’s go!

Doom: The Dark Ages was good, but

Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages

Oh yeah I wanted to write about this game because it’s one of the big boys this year. So I finished it weeks ago… and I forgot to write about it. I am also writing a quick thing about Switch 2, but figured I should Doom it up first.

So Doom 2016 was fantastic. Doom Eternal gets a bit of hate but it is objectively way better than 2016 in every way. They changed the gameplay around a bit to make it about resource micromanagement while getting into a fast-paced flow-state of murder, making it a lot more interesting than 2016. I actually watched very little footage for Dark Ages because this was an obvious second 1 buy, but what I saw looked great. So I bought it and played it the second it came out (probably a bit early because you should always preorder PC games because they’re basically always discounted).

Let’s go, this will be really quick.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is good

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

This is the kind of project that is not made anymore. Something like this just does not happen. And yet it did, by what I’d call the unlikeliest people (and no, I don’t mean the French).

So I thought I’d talk about this game real quick so I can pretend I still run this website. Yeah, I did say I’d post sometimes, and this is a good occasion.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct – Reactions and rant

Switch 2

Switch 2

Okay so I’m back, didn’t really think about how I might have to rant about this so I’m taking a break from my blogging break to talk about this.

So I’m a big Nintendo fanboy, but I also fucking hate Nintendo. I will always buy the Nintendo consoles and games, but they keep doing stupid shit that they should really know better.

Switch 2 is exactly what we have been wanting for a long time. A Switch, but stronger. And now we had the first big showcase, and boy do I have things to say about this. I will buy this shit at launch, but it has some things it really should fix.

So… let’s go I guess. I will talk about the good and the bad. Mostly the bad though. I’ll start with the good shit, because there was, indeed, much good shit. But there was much bad shit too.

Video Games coming out in January 2025

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

First monthly releases post of the year! And, surprisingly, January has a few games coming out! So let’s talk about them and get started with 2025!

For January 2025 I am highlighting: 13 multiplats, 2 Switch games and 4 PC titles. There’s a few cool things here, but for me there’s really just a few maybes.

Anyways, let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice and such. This is not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. Of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

2025 HYPE GAMES – Interesting upcoming games

Spine: This is Gun Fu

Well I got 20 minutes left before 2025 so… gotta get hyped for games coming out in 2025! … Hopefully 2025 delivers a bit better than 2024 did because oof.

I’m just gonna do the usual, just talk about my top-most-hyped-for-now games, and then big lists of games I have some level of interest in (or have the potential of being good), and a smaller list of games that are big releases that I don’t think are interesting (and have no potential of being good).

So let’s go!

Games of the Year Awards – 2024

Black Myth: WuKong

Well I guess there’s only a few days left in 2024, so I should be naming the best games of the year… that I played.

You’ll be getting an opinion that actually has some small level of viability compared to, say, “Geoff Keighley’s stupid show that is just a way for him to make a lot of money rather than actually celebrating gaming’s accomplishments of the year”. You know, the show where he gave an award to a Tencent director, where his job is doing the opposite of what his award was given to him for? The show where most of the people deciding on nominees and winners aren’t even gamers? That one? Yeah it’s bad.

So yeah, I will be choosing 5 Games of the Year, with a fairly arbitrary top choice. Because one winner isn’t enough. Then I’ll do honorable mentions and… maybe bad games of the year, I dunno. And a quick rant about the year as a whole

To be clear, this is games I have played. If I haven’t played it, it will not be here. If I had played Stellar Blade, it would probably be on here. I didn’t. I will play it when it comes out on PC. Other games that are probably good that I haven’t played are: Another Crab’s Treasure, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Marvel Rivals, FF7 Rebirth, MiSide, Animal Well, and VGA winner Astro Bot… among many others. Lots of interesting stuff came out that I just skipped over for whatever reason.

There’s also games that came out that I skipped because they looked genuinely awful, such as Concord, Dragon Age: The Veilguard and many other failures. If something like that was your favorite game this year? Get a different hobby.

As a general rule, remakes and remasters will not make the list unless they’re substantially different from the original, but some might make it into the honorable mentions. Even though there’s so many remasters/remakes, I avoid most of them.

Anyways, time to rant quickly, then go through the winners and stuff. LET’S GO!

The November 2024 Gaming Update

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

Well I played a few things in November. Again I don’t have THAT much to say about them, but I do want to keep going with these posts that I’m always late on.

So yeah, this month I’ll be quickly talking about Mario and Luigi Brothership, Metal Slug Tactics, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D and Space Marine 2.

Also I started Baldur’s Gate 3 at the very end of november… but I won’t talk about it until next month after I’ve played more of it.

Let’s go!

Video Games coming out in December 2024

Tokyo Clanpool

It’s December! I’ll probably do a few posts during the month, near the end, such GotY awards that have way more relevance than Geoff’s VGAs and hype for next year. But there’s also games coming out in december which is pretty cool I guess. Some of them are even interesting.

For December 2024 I am highlighting: 11 multiplats, 3 Switch games and a PC title. I’m not getting much in here I think. One game is for sure, and there’s like 4-5 maybes. Not a huge month, but I’d say a bit better than the average december.

The October 2024 Gaming Update

Metaphor: ReFantazio

I’m way slow on this post, but whatever.

So October was a month where I don’t feel like I played all that much, most of the month was spent on one game. I played very small amounts of other things, so in the end I don’t even really have that much to talk about.

We’re gonna talk about Metaphor, Card-en-Ciel, Rivals 2,Final Fantasy, Hatch Tales and Undisputed. Sounds like a lot, but most of those I barely played.

Let’s go!
