Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum NES GAME review

GARBAGE PAIL KIDS: MAD MIKE AND THE QUEST FOR STALE GUM

GARBAGE PAIL KIDS: MAD MIKE AND THE QUEST FOR STALE GUM

I find this a weird nostalgia bait thing. Like… Kids cared a little bit about this back in the 80s, and it even got a really crap movie because of the success of the cards, but I dunno if all that many people really look back that fondly on Garbage Pail Kids, beyond it being a product of its time. However, I’m kinda into this concept of making new games for old systems, especially now if you make sure to, you know, make them available on modern platforms too. One of the best examples of this is Battle Kid, a game that was stuck on NES for a bit but is now available on Xbox and hopefully will come to more platforms.

So I figured I’d grab this on a sensible system so I got the PC version. It will come on an NES cartridge later if you like spending like 7 times more than the game costs to get a collectible version of it… Yeah, not a fan of that price point.

So let’s see if this is a good NES game or whatever!

Games coming out in November 2022

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

Okay, October wasn’t that busy as far as reviews, and I think we’re gonna be in a moment where I have to build a backlog though because there’s lots of big long games coming out soon. I also have a post of games I played but haven’t reviewed this year, I’ll post that probably in December. I’m playing the new Mario + Rabbids game now, and both Bayonetta 3 and Star Ocean are out this week, and then November is not lacking in games I’ll play and review… The problem isn’t that I don’t have games to play, it’s that I don’t have enough time to play them and review them in a timely manner.

So November… Actually a lot of games. Some big ones too. Here I’m highlighting: 13 multiplatform releases, 4 Switch releases (5 if you’re weird) and 3 PC releases. There’s 8 of these I’m buying for sure, plus a few maybes. It’s gonna be busy.

Let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, some more niche stuff I may notice, and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course, I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

The DioField Chronicle review

The Diofield Chronicle

The Diofield Chronicle

This was announced at a Sony Direct (one of the 2 Sony Directs that were actually kinda okay). I was pretty curious about it, it looked like a fairly unique kind of strategy game that kind of reminded me of an old PC game I used to play called Cannon Fodder, but with an RPG twist. Looked interesting enough so I grabbed it at launch!

I actually never really noticed that this was developed by Lancarse, the same company that also released Monark early this year, an RPG I did not like. I don’t think this would’ve influenced my decision to get this though.

So let’s check this one out!

Temtem review

temtem

temtem

It’s Pokemon. But not! There’s a few of these Pokemon-likes coming out recently like this, Coromon, Nexomon and probably a bunch of others I’m forgetting. This one seemed to be a bit more competitive-focused, with some small but interesting changes to the formula. It’s also been in early access for a while but I decided to wait until full release before getting it.

I actually took a lot of notes while playing this one. So I may address notes in this review more than usual since this is a game that can be described very quickly. Also I’ll just call Temtem, the creatures themselves, Pokemon. Because they’re Pokemon.

Well let’s talk about this!

Games coming out in October 2022

Bayonetta 3

I’m still not quite getting all the reviews out that I want, though I did get several posts out this month anyways. At this point I’m just planning on making a post near the end of the year with very quick paragraph-long impressions of them for games I skipped reviewing. Still, there’s some games I want to do full reviews of, such as TemTem and DioField Chronicle (which I’m probably close-ish to the end). Plus, of course, there’s stuff coming out, and games I haven’t played yet that I will (like Freedom Planet 2 and Metal Hellsinger), so I have a lot of potential content coming still. Good stuff!

October feels a bit less busy than some other months this year, but there’s still… stuff. Basically, this is gonna give me a bit of time to catch up. So for October I’m highlighting: 17 multiplats, 7 Switch games and 4 PC games. As far as what I’ve getting… there’s 4 I’m getting for sure, and a couple maybes.

Let’s go!

*EDIT 09/29: Added a PC game*

Pac-Man World Re-Pac review

Pac-Man World Re-Pac

Pac-Man World Re-Pac

The Pac-Man World series is one I missed entirely back when it was ongoing. Some time back on Youtube, I did notice a few smaller game review channels being really big fans of these games (especially the third), so I was pretty interested to finally try one of them out.

So let’s see if this classic game is actually a classic!

Soul Hackers 2 review

Soul Hackers 2

soul hackers 2

I’m never gonna say no to more Shin Megami Tensei. Soul Hackers was a pretty decent spin-off for Sega Saturn (actually a spin-off of another spin-off called Devil Summoner). It never got localized until an improved port for 3DS, which I had some fun with. Not the best of SMT, but decent enough.

I was pretty excited to see a new one, but I was really confused at the lack of a Switch version. So I grabbed it on PC. It was pretty clear it would be a bit different from the previous one.

So let’s go, see if it’s fun!

Games coming out in September 2022

splatoon 3

I didn’t quite get all the reviews out that I wanted since the last post. Xenoblade 3’s review has been in half-written form for a bit, I just finished Rollerdrome, I finished Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 like 2 weeks ago, I’m not done with Super Bullet Break and Blossom Tales 2 which I started a bit ago… I need to start actually getting stuff out. Also I started Soul Hacker 2 yesterday but obviously that’s got a while to go before I can review it. Reviews for a bunch of stuff, coming soon, I’m trying 😀

September actually has some games. Which is nice. A lot of curious, interesting ones that might end up being good, but as far as big heavy hitters, there ain’t much. So here I’m highlighting: 19 Multiplats, 2 Switch games, 2 PC games and the dumbest PS5 release yet. I’m getting something between 5 and 9 of these, I dunno.

*EDIT 08/30: ADDED A MULTIPLAT GAME*

Let’s go!

Cult of the Lamb review

Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb

I saw bits of this here and there, and I was pretty interested. It was definitely billing itself as a Binding of Isaac alternative, with a lot of similarities gameplay-wise and, in a way, visually. I was pretty interested in trying it out. So I bought it last week when it came out and… finished it. Hmm.

Well, let’s talk about it!

Frogun almost-review

frogun

Well I was gonna review this once I finished it, but tragedy struck. For whatever reason, the game wasn’t taking my inputs in the title screen, so I mashed buttons and when it finally started taking inputs, somehow I did exactly what I needed to delete my save. I was nearly at the end, but I’m not quite willing to replay through the whole thing right now to get to the end properly… So this isn’t quite a review, but close enough.

SO ANYWAYS! I’ve seen this game pop up at events with new trailers and stuff for a little bit. I thought it looked fun, and doing the PS1-ish graphics was pretty cool. So I was curious enough to grab it.

So let’s go, see if it’s good!
