Xbox Games Showcase 2023 reaction

Xbox Games Showcase 2023

Xbox Games Showcase 2023

Xbox had a presentation. It has things… So let’s talk about it! Sony’s may have sucked, but maybe Microsoft has the goods. I watched Summer Game Fest in part which was pretty lame (I mostly just skipped through it to see if any interesting announcements happened… they didn’t with a BIG maybe on Sonic), and the other presentations were so bad I didn’t even skip through them. This is why there’s no E3, because no one has shit to announce anyways, apparently. Can’t wait for Nintendo to also announce nothing. This is also why I didn’t post about anything else, but I kinda have to make an exception for the big 3, at minimum.

So let’s see if Xbox has anything at all to show. This time, I’m starting with the lowlights and slowly building up to what is certainly a ton of highlights… right? Let’s go! Oh and I guess I’ll mention Starfield in its own section since it goes it’s own section of the showcase, so it’s in none of the lowlight-highlight sections.

Let’s go?

Games I played but didn’t review in 2022

River City Girls 2

So I reviewed a decent amount of games this year. But I played more than what I reviewed. I did have a few “I don’t want to review X game” posts, where I’d give a quick synopsis of why a review felt a bit pointless, or I didn’t finish the game and had little to say about it. Like Dawn of the Monsters which I found kinda meh, or Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes which I really liked but didn’t review because it’s just another Warriors game.

So I figured, let’s take all these games I played and didn’t review, and put them all in one big stupid post. Why not!

Here are the games I’m having a look at in this post: Windjammers 2, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, Hot Wheels Unleashed, Blossom Tales 2, River City Saga: Three Kingdoms, Shovel Knight Dig, Metal Hellsinger, Omega Labyrinth Life, River City Girls 2, Freedom Planet 2, Demon Throttle, Gungrave G.O.R.E., Ground Divers. A bit of a random post, but hey I like talking about most of the games I play, so there it is.

Well, let’s go!

I don’t want to review Dawn of the Monsters

Dawn of the Monsters

Dawn of the Monsters

I was pretty excited about this game. It looked really cool. It’s pretty okay, but by the end, I was just tired of playing it. I have 92% of the game done now and I’m not feeling like finishing it.  I don’t really have a whole review’s worth of things to say about it. So I’ll keep it quick, and vague, and I will not even have a real “read more” link.

The game is kinda fun with the deliberately slow movement/attacks (which makes sense, to simulate the kind of stuff you see in Kaiju movies… it’s not a complaint I’m actually completely fine with this) and an okay amount of okay attack options, but every level is the same thing with the same combat scenarios over and over, there’s barely any level design, and not much going on other than the fact that it’s a super cool concept that’s executed okay-ish. I like what it’s doing, but I wish it did it a bit better.

I’d recommend this one at a good discount only, as there are lots of much better recent beat ’em ups like Streets of Rage 4 or River City Girls or the Kunio-kun + Double Dragon collection. Get those before getting this one.
