Halo Infinite review

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite

It’s Halo! It was meant to come out last year with the launch of the Xbox Series X, but it was delayed a whole year. Finally we got it.

Halo is not the series I have the most experience in. I played part of 1, part of 3, I think all of 4 and part of 5. I have zero care for the story, basically. I have enjoyed my time with Halo, but I’d generally stop playing to play other stuff. So Infinite is a rare instance of me actually beating a Halo game.

So let’s check it out! And yes this is just a review of the campaign, I don’t play multiplayer shit. I’m sure the multiplayer here is great.

And also I will take a moment to complain about Game Pass. I actually got the 1$ Game Pass thing to play this and a few other games.

Games coming out in November 2021

shin megami tensei v

This was a pretty good month post-wise. I’m also writing a rant right now, it’s a good one, not sure when I’ll post it. Still have some things ongoing that I will review soon-ish-maybe. Kinda randomly bought Caligula Effect 2 (despite not having played the first), and there’s a couple things I’ll be getting that are out soon or in November. Surprisingly my “want to buy but haven’t yet” list has been going down smoothly enough, much of the stuff remaining in it that came out this year isn’t very high-priority stuff anymore. So things may calm down a bit, but there’s still plenty for me to review this year.

This month I’m highlighting: 13 multiplats and 4 Switch releases. As far as big releases, November is pretty quiet, but there’s still some cool stuff, including the SECOND hypest game of the year. Wow! I’m getting a couple of these.

Also I’m going with some weird inclusions I usually wouldn’t look at this month, because I figure it’s fun. The theme? Games from the same company (Microid), all based on franco/franco-belgian comics, that actually have weirdly okay collector editions and the games themselves don’t look quite as shit as they probably should. It’s really weird, not sure why there’s 3 of these this month. But there you go.

Let’s go!

Disclaimer: I only list games that I think are worth mentioning. This includes games I’m personally interested in, games that will likely be popular, highly advertised games, small interesting ones I may notice and such. Not just games I care about myself, I highlight as much as I think makes sense. And of course I can’t see the future, so I may be missing games and I may be listing games that may get delayed.

Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl review

nickelodeon all-star brawl

nickelodeon all-star brawl

I have no idea what happened with this universe that I’m actually reviewing this game. I’d usually  just straight up ignore this licensed rip-off kinda deal. But this game, it got my attention.

And I wasn’t the only one, as it got the attention of the competitive Smash fanbase in a pretty big way, and the Smash fanbase overall. The moment it got peoples’ attention is when the dev was revealed to be Ludosity, who previously made Slap City, a Smash clone that I hear is pretty okay, but also with the gameplay demos (including in-depth moveset showcases for all the characters) we were shown a game that looked way better than you may expect from something like this. As in, it actually looked good.

So yeah… let’s talk about this one! I don’t think it will be a super long review, but we’ll see.

*EDIT: As I was writing this review a patch came out for the game and I didn’t notice, it does fix some things I mention, mostly as far as character balance*

Games coming out in October 2021

Metroid Dread

Actually got several posts out in September, that was decent. 2 of them were reaction posts, which is fine. I don’t always do these, but sometimes I feel like it makes sense. I wouldn’t do a reaction to the Smash showcase on october 5th, for example. That’s not really worth reacting to. As far as future posts, I do still have a so-called “backlog” (i.e. games I want to play but haven’t bought yet), I haven’t bought No More Heroes 3 yet, or Axiom Verge 2 (amongst many others), and I was made aware that Deathloop may actually be an okay game so I just started that. And there’s obviously upcoming games I’ll write about. So I still have plenty on the go writing-wise.

So this month I’m highlighting: 17 multiplats, 2 Switch games, 2 PC games and 1 PS4 exclusive for some reason. For me, in all that, there’s only 2 “getting for sure” games, 2 I’m probably getting, and a couple that are going on the maybe list. It’s actually a weirdly quiet month despite having the hypest game of the year, so I might be able to get into some backlog games.

Let’s go!

Tales of Arise review

Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise

It has been a little bit since the last Tales of game, with Berseria in 2016. Actually the longest gap between “main” releases in this series. So I was pretty excited for this one. I usually like the Tales of games, though I haven’t played all of them. This looked decent from what I saw pre-release.

Not much else to say in an intro… Let’s just go!

Games coming out in August 2021

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

July has been a great month so far, and there’s still games coming this week, with the Great Ace Attorney collection and NEO TWEWY and Blaster Master Zero 3 (and I’m curious about The Ascent so that’s a maybe). I reviewed a bunch of stuff in July, and ranted about the Steam Deck, and I have plenty more to go. August is a bit of a quieter month, so maybe I’ll get to some time to play other things I had skipped in the year to play the more high-priority stuff… Or not. Definitely a few games I skipped that I want to play. I’m not running out of games to review, that’s for sure.

So in August we’re getting: 9 multiplats, 4 Switch games, 2 PC games and 1 PS4 game. As for heavy hitters, there’s a few, but I think the more interesting games this time are smaller releases. There’s actually only 2 “for sure” purchases for me, but there’s a whole lot of maybes. So lots of potential reviews.

*Edit 7/28: Added a multiplat game*

*Edit 7/29: Removed a multiplat game because it was delayed lol*

*Edit 2 7/29: Removed another multiplat that was also delayed… you should’ve known a while ago about the delay, why wait until 2 weeks before release to announce it?*

Let’s go!

Scarlet Nexus review

Scarlet Nexus

Scarlet Nexus

I like my animu weeb BS. And seeing some gameplay for this, clearly I was in for all sorts of animu BS. I skipped the demo but watched a few people play it, it looked fine. So I picked it up!

I also didn’t really try watching the anime… I figure that, since I’m playing the game, there’s no reason to watch the anime. Watched a few seconds and figured I wasn’t getting anything from it that I didn’t get from the game already.

Anyways, let’s see if it’s good!

Games coming out in July 2021

Monster Hunter Stories™ 2: Wings of Ruin

Well that’s that for June. Got a lot of E3 posts out complaining about the worst E3 ever, that was fun. And I got a few reviews posted too (and 2 non-reviews, though the Outriders one kinda counts as a review if you want it to be). I’m thinking of a rant right now, not sure it’ll go anywhere but it could make some particularly stupid people mad so… It may be brewing. And I have a few other games I’m playing for review too, so yay. And July will be pretty busy.

So July, which is usually not a big month, is a strangely big month this year. There’s many (hopefully) great games, combined with some end-of-June games that are also big boys to plow through like Scarlet Nexus and Disgaea 6 which will take some July time.

So for releases in July I’m highlighting: 14 multiplats and 2 Switch releases. Might not sound massive but there’s some really good stuff here.

Let’s go!

Games coming out in March 2021

I mentioned this in my intro post, this is a type of post I’ve done monthly since 2008 on my previous site The Save Points. I just highlight upcoming games, give my impressions on them based on currently-known info like trailers and demos and such. This includes games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular whether or not I care about them, and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning for any reason. Obviously I can’t tell the future but I will try to somewhat keep this up-to-date as interesting games get release dates and remove games that get delayed at the last minute.

I also like to use these posts as a quick update thing, talk about recent and upcoming stuff, you know… I mean, I made a new site, posted several reviews, changed a bunch of things in the design and functionality of the blog, all has been going well on that end. And I got my second cataract surgery so I CAN SEE, without glasses… that’s pretty cool! I do have a bunch of reviews upcoming, right now on my currently-playing list I have Cathedral and Persona 5 Strikers and Bravely Default 2 and Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection… Curse of the Dead Gods looks kinda cool too so that’s a maybe… and there’s some stuff coming out in March that I’m getting… so I’m not running out of things to post for a while.

So March 2021… it has a couple of the year’s biggest heavy hitters. I’m counting: 11 multiplats, 4 Switch games, 1 PS5 game, 6 PC releases and 1 PS4 game. I’m buying a couple things in there, it’s a decent month.

Well, let’s go and see what March has in store for us! I was gonna post this a bit earlier but a State of Play was announced so I decided to wait, just in case something happened. Nothing happened, so no reaction post. Sony sucks. Maybe I should do a new “Sony is not a good game company” post for the lulz. Did one last year after another shitty State of Play.

*EDIT 03/01* Had to remove a PS5 game that I didn’t notice got pushed back yay!

Cyber Shadow review

Cyber Shadow

I was really hyped for this game, I’ve been following it for a while. There’s a lot of these 8-bit-style games around but this one looked really interesting. For a second I actually mistook The Messenger for this, quickly realized they were different games… The Messenger is kinda similar but has different gameplay focuses, I recommend it too.

Let’s go and see if my hype was warranted!
